Design Week 2021

During the week of the 6th of December, the Thales Design Office hosted the first ever Thales Design Week. Design Week celebrated the growing Thales Design Community, combining a series of centrally organised webinars, workshops, and speakers with local events organised by the design community across Thales Group.

A first of a kind

Recognising the link between great design, user experience and customer satisfaction, the events also provided an opportunity to touch the engineering, marketing, and leadership communities, and communicate the rising importance of design to all functions within Thales, connecting them to the design community, capabilities, and growth objectives.

The event provided a high-level view of the breadth and progress of Design Transformation activity that aims to transform THALES into a world-class design organisation. Highlights from the event included:

  • An overview of the Thales Design organisation and an introduction to the Thales Design Office, its role in growing the impact of design across Thales and an overview of the key streams of activity including the development of the Quantum Design System and Thales Design Language.

  • A series of Figma design masterclasses delivered virtually by the Quantum Design Lead, Rodolphe Perruza.

  • A series of virtual community engagement workshops, designed to understand and capture the needs and desires of the Thales Design Community as we continue to build the community in 2022.

  • A guest talk on the Engie Fluid Design System, delivered by the Fluid Design System Product Owner, David de Vicente. David took us on a tour of the Fluid design system, describing what was in the box, how the team is organised, governance and insights into adoption challenges across Engie.

  • A host of community organised events in Australia, UK, France, USA, Canada, Brazil, Norway, Germany, ranging from external keynotes to workshops and internal briefing sessions on aspects of UX Design.

  • As a first of a kind event, Design Week was a great success and lays a foundation for a bigger and better event in 2022. We look forward to announcing the dates early 2022.

  • A summary of Design Week has been captured in SWAY, including recordings of the key sessions which can be accessed HERE
